Waste & water programs

Less to landfill. Less down the drain.

Waste and water are two of the clearest places to cut cost and impact at once. We design the programs, implement them on the ground, and prove the result against a real baseline.

Practical, not theoretical

Reduction first. Recovery second. Disposal last — and measured at every step.

For ports, councils, manufacturers and large facilities, waste and water are a material cost and a growing compliance and reputational risk. We turn that into opportunity — cutting what is thrown away and drawn down, recovering value where it exists, and reporting the result with the same rigour we bring to energy and emissions.

What we cover

Two streams, one accountable team

Waste audits & baselining

See exactly what is thrown away and why — the starting point for every reduction worth making.

Diversion & resource recovery

Redesign segregation and streams so organics, metals, paper and aggregates are recovered, not buried.

Source reduction & procurement

Cut waste before it is created by rethinking what is bought, packaged and specified.

Water metering & efficiency

Map and meter water use to find loss, then target the biggest, fastest reductions first.

Water quality & discharge

Manage and monitor water so it is used efficiently and returned clean, aligned to compliance.

Reporting & assurance

Board-ready reporting on diversion, consumption and cost — evidenced against the baseline.

Water

Use less, return it clean

Water is metered, mapped and managed — so loss is found and stopped, consumption falls, and what leaves the site meets its obligations. We make efficiency and water quality a measured, reportable part of operations rather than an afterthought.

Neatly sorted material streams — metal, organics, paper and aggregate — under warm light

Waste

Designed out, or recovered

Most waste is a procurement and process decision before it is a bin. We reduce it at the source, then turn what remains into recoverable streams — organics, metals, paper and aggregates — so diversion rises and landfill cost falls, tracked the whole way.

Measured, not asserted

Every reduction, evidenced

Waste and water programs are baselined against real data and tracked with our Data+ measurement layer — the same platform behind our consulting work. Diversion rates, consumption and cost savings are reported as evidence you can put in front of a board, a regulator or a community. See how it fits the wider program →

How a program runs

Audit. Design. Implement. Measure.

01

Audit

Measure current waste and water performance and find where the real loss and cost sit.

02

Design

Set targets and a practical program — reduction first, recovery second, disposal last.

03

Implement

Stand up the streams, metering and processes on the ground, with the people who run them.

04

Measure

Track diversion, consumption and savings against the baseline and report transparently.

Answers

Waste & water questions

What is a waste and water management program?

A waste and water management program is a structured plan to reduce what an organisation sends to landfill and draws from or discharges to the water system — and to recover value where it can. ReThink Sustainability audits current performance, designs the program, implements it on the ground, and measures the result so reductions are evidenced rather than assumed.

How do you reduce waste sent to landfill?

We start with a waste audit to see exactly what is being thrown away and why, then redesign collection, segregation and procurement so material is reduced at the source and the rest is diverted to recovery streams — organics, metals, paper and aggregates. Diversion rate is tracked over time against the baseline.

Can you help cut water consumption and improve water quality?

Yes. We meter and map water use to find loss and waste, target the biggest reductions first, and put management and monitoring in place so water is used efficiently and returned clean. For sites with discharge obligations we align the program to compliance and report against it.

Do you measure the results, or just recommend changes?

We measure. Every waste and water program is baselined against real data and tracked with our Data+ measurement layer, so diversion rates, consumption and cost savings are reported as evidence — not estimates. If we advise it, we measure it.

Who are waste and water programs for?

Ports, councils, manufacturers and large facilities where waste and water are a material cost and a compliance and reputational risk. These programs sit alongside our energy and emissions work so an organisation can address its whole environmental footprint with one accountable team.

Cut the waste. Keep the proof.

Start with a waste and water audit — a clear, measured picture of where cost and impact are leaking, and what it takes to stop it.
